Learning to lead climb is a big step in a climbers progression, this course will set you up for real success. All the necessary skills and techniques are covered here in this course. You will spend 2 days climbing on the finest Lake District rock, learning from our hugely experienced instructors as you go. You will gain skills and knowledge in each performance area; Technical, Tactical, Physical and Psychological. Hard skills like placing runners, efficient ropework and building belays. Exploring climbing psychology, learning how to set yourself up for real success.

 

Is this for me?

 

This course is designed for those people ready to take the next step and lead their first route on real rock. Perfect for indoor leaders that want to gain the skills needed to take their sport to outdoor crags. Climbers already seconding routes outdoors that want to step-up and get on the sharp end.

What do I need?

We provide all the technical equipment; Helmets, harnesses, ropes and climbing gear. If you own any of your own climbing gear then please bring it along. You will need to bring food and drink for the day and clothing suitable for the weather conditions; Warm clothes, water-poofs, hat and gloves. Maybe sunglasses and sunscreen if we're lucky.

 

Where do we go?

 

We will generally meet in Langdale valley, at the National Trust(NT) car park. This will be subject to local weather conditions, we’ll head to wherever is best on the day. If you have any preference of location we will always try to include this in the program. Please chat to us beforehand to see what is possible.

 

Course Itinerary

 

This 2 day course is run at Valley locations on single and multi-pitch routes. After some quick instruction and skills/kit check, you’ll set off climbing and learn on-the-hoof. You will spend each day at a different location, climbing both single and multi-pitch routes. Climbing grades will be kept low to maximise mileage, keeping the focus on learning. Day 2 will likely see you getting on the sharp-end. Your instructor will be beside you every step of the way: coaching, instructing and ensuring safety, as you relax and enjoy the experience.
